PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)
April 17, 2024
The Holy Cross Parish Council met on April 17, 2024 at 7:15 PM at the Lastrup community center. The meeting started with a prayer led by Fr Aaron.
Council members present were Yvonne Kisor-Boser, Doug Knopik, Debbie Woitalla, Dave Skwira, Andy Woitalla, Denise Young, Jeff Thomas, Bernie Hoffman.
Minutes from the meeting held on January 18, 2024 were reviewed. Denise Young made a motion to accept the parish council minutes as read, Jeff Thomas seconded the motion, motion passed.
The treasure’s report was read by Deb Woitalla. Denise Young made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read, Bernie Hoffman seconded the motion, motion passed.
Alicia Kapus gave a report on the ACC council. Fr Aaron is planning a future meeting that all members of the ACC can come to and bring concerns for the ACC. The ACC members are going to make a presentation to the diocese on 5/15/24.
The insulation of the north wall of church is moving forward.
The additional shelter for the Bazaar is on hold until diocese planning is complete.
Dave Schubert is overseeing installing an exhaust fan in the Morton building over the hamburger stand.
The chimney & surrounding roof on the parish house needs repair. Denise Young made a motion to have Andy Woitalla fix this. Yvonne Boser seconded the motion, motion passed.
There was discussion of a dollar amount the parish council could approve without the financial council needing prior approval. This was tabled at this time but will be discussed in the future.
Discussion regarding the parish house gutters, they will be fixed.
Sacristy roof is leaking. Andy Woitalla will obtain bids.
The canopy or roof extension on the east side of church was tabled.
Doug Knopik will take care of having the carpet fixed that needs to be re-glued. Leonard did a beautiful job in the choir after the new carpet was installed.
No update on the cemetery road extension.
Parish elections of 2024 were discussed. Bernie Hoffman has completed 2 terms & is not eligible to run. Doug Knopik has completed 1 term & is eligible to be re-elected. Nominations will take place on May 4th & elections will be held May 11th. No elections for Holy Trinity or FPSR. Discussion occurred with Fr. Aaron regarding the finance committee which were appointed terms.
Deb Woitalla spoke about the parish organ which is no longer working. She has found someone who will come and look at repairing it. Bernie Hoffman made a motion, seconded by Denise Young to have the repair man check the organ & fix it with a $2500 cap at this time.
New organ speakers were tabled until the condition of the organ is known.
Doug Knopik presented a bid on new microphone for the choir. Denise Young made a motion to approve the purchase of new microphones, Yvonne Boser seconded the motion. Motion passed. This was also approved by the finance committee.
Council approved to have Teresa Thesing be a signer on the Mass Stipend checkbook.
There will be a mass time change July 6, 2024 due to the rodeo.
Baccalaureate mass for parish seniors will be held on May 19, 2024.
Leonard is looking at estimates to obtain a new parish lawn mower.
There were no reports from Holy Trinity or FPSR.
Dave Skwira reported on a successful Holy Name Bingo.
Deb Woitalla spoke about the baccalaureate mass and doing something for the seniors from the Rosary Sodality.
Next scheduled meeting is July 18, 2024 at 7:15 PM in Harding.
Fr Aaron led the closing prayer.
