HOLY CROSS PARISH

PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)

JULY 17, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 7:55 and started with prayer.

Members present: Fr. David, LeRoy Knopik, Dave Schubert, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Horst Hanneken, Deb Woitalla, Ronnie Gross, Sheila Rudolph, Dave Skwira, Val Matlock, Gary Hebler, and Yvonne Kisor.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Dave Skwira to accept the treasurers report. Motion passed.

Horst Hanneken made a motion, seconded by Sheila Rudolph to accept the minutes of the last meeting. Motion passed.

Guests present: Rose Hubner, Richard and Julie Langer, and Leonard and Teresa Thesing.

Rose Hubner brought many items of Fr. Otto’s. She thought we might want to display them. Horst is going to try to make some type of display case.

There was some money left in the Victoria Van Fund. It will stay in the bank to be used for maintenance, insurance and licenses for the van.

The parish house will be rented out. There was much cleaning and remodeling to be done. Much work has already been done. The garage ceiling and garage doors are in need of repair. Horst Hanneken will check on used garage doors. Horst made a motion seconded by Ronnie Gross and Sheila Rudolph to pay extra charges for the dumpster used to do the cleaning. Motion carried. Items of value from the garage will be on the fall Schubert consignment auction.

Deb Woitalla made a motion, seconded by Sheila Rudolph to complete repairs. Motion carried.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Ronnie Gross to pay an additional $10,000 on the roof loan. Motion carried.

We had an election of officers. Chairman is Horst Hanneken, Vice Chair is Dave Schubert and secretary is Yvonne Kisor.

Will try to have a representative come to the next meeting on building a columbarium.

The lean on the bus garage needs repair. We are looking at the first part of August to do this.

We are getting about 2500 copies out of the ink cartridges. Bulletin is also being printed on smaller sheets when possible.

Arnie Wieczorek will no longer by doing the plumbing work for the church. Horst will check with area individuals to see if they are interested.

There will be a 4:00 mass on August 30 for the bazaar workers. Bazaar day mass will be a polka mass at 10:00.

Floor in the bus garage is tabled until we hear from Swede Roscoe.

There are 3 spruce trees dead in the cemetery. Larry Woitalla will remove these. Black dirt will be ordered to fill in the low spots.

Ovens in the basement will be moved so cleaning can be done. Ovens also go out all the time. A new control was put in, will wait to see if that solved the problem.

We need to box in the thermostat in the basement. There have been problems with people adjusting the temperature.

Fr. David received a letter from Birth Line. They are losing funding because of the health care reform. We will have a special collection for this.

Holy Trinity is working on ways to reduce each parishes share of tuition. Karen Brisk and Amber Woitalla are representing Holy Cross Parish.

Fr. Pierz will have a meeting towards the end of August.

Next meeting is September 18. The meeting will start earlier in the cemetery if we have a representative for the columbarium.

HOLY CROSS PARISH

PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)

MARCH 20, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 and started with prayer.

Members present: LeRoy Knopik, Fr David, Ron Gross, Sheila Rudolph, Dave Schubert, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Deb Woitalla, Val Matlock, Marvin Thomas and Yvonne Kisor.

Minutes from the last meeting need to be amended. Virg and the Eldorados is the second band that will be contacted to play at the bazaar. The extra amount of money paid on the roof loan to the diocese was $25,000.00. Deb made a motion, seconded by Marvin to accept the amended minutes. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s report was read. Phyllis made a motion, seconded by Yvonne to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

Dave Schubert was officially approved by the diocese to be our new trustee.

The Richard and Julie Langer family is in need of a ramped van. The van needs to accommodate two wheelchairs and 3 more people. They are requesting the parish to sponsor them for the Johnny and Friends Group. This group will do a matching fund up to $5000.00. Phyllis made a motion, seconded by Dave for the parish to open an account for the Victoria’s Van Fund. Motion was amended to read, Holy Cross Parish will open an account with Deb and Fr David in charge of the account for Victoria’s Van Fund. Phyllis made a motion, seconded by Dave. Motion carried. There will be a special collection on Palm Sunday for this account. The Langers would like to have a breakfast after First Communion on April 27 with a good will offering. We also discussed the need for a benefit.

There was snow damage to the lean on the bus garage. We will look at the necessary after the snow melts. Garage floor in the bus garage also needs repair.

Rug runners have been installed behind the alter and by the podium. Fr says it helps ease his leg pain. Horst and Marvin will by adding non-slip grips on the steps up to the alter.

John Deere repair was tabled.

We are going to order less contribution envelopes. Currently 134 people regularly use their envelopes.

Deb will take care of the council elections. The last week of March parishioners will be able to make nominations. Election will be held the first week of April.

There will be a salary review at the next meeting.

It was brought up that we should consider having a mausoleum in the cemetery. Ideas will be brought to the next meeting.

Holy Week Schedule is as follows: Holy Thursday Mass will be in Lastrup, Good Friday Service will be at 1:00 in Harding and 3:00 in Lastrup, Holy Saturday Mass will be at 8:00 in Harding, with Easter Sunday Mass at 9:00 in both parishes. Holy Name Bingo will be April 6 at 1:30.

Next meeting is scheduled for May 15.

HOLY CROSS PARISH

PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)

JANUARY 16, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 7:55 and started with prayer.

Members present: LeRoy Knopik, Dave Schubert, Debbie Woitalla, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Ronnie Gross, Fr. David, Sheila Rudolph, Dave Skwira, Valerie Matlock, Marvin Thomas, and Yvonne Kisor.

Council reviewed minutes from the last meeting. Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Ronnie Gross to approve minutes. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s report was read. Sheila Rudolph made a motion, seconded by Dave Skwira to approve treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

Everything went well with the parish directory and it has been sent to the printer. Everyone who had their picture taken will receive a copy of the directory. If anyone else would like a copy they will be able to purchase one and they should contact Janet Hanneken.

The parish house occupancy did not happen. Council tabled what action should be taken at this time.

Dave Schubert made a motion to pay extra on our roof loan to the diocese. Motion was seconded by Ronnie Gross. Motion carried.

Fr David has asked Dave Schubert to be a new trustee. He is willing to do this. The diocese needs to approve before it will become official.

Council will wait to elect new member until the next election.

There is a seal out on the snow removal machine. It will be fixed in the spring when it is not being used.

February 9 has been scheduled for the skating party in Lastrup. It will start right after church with hot dogs being served around noon.

Debbie Woitalla made a motion, seconded by Phyllis Schmidtbauer to allow gun training classes to be held in the church basement. Motion carried.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Debbie Woitalla to hire a second band for the bazaar. Motion carried. LeRoy Knopik will contact the band.

Parish Vibrancy tool was briefly discussed. Suggested areas to work on are adult education and connecting the young people to the parish.

The Memorial Donation will be used for new server robes.

Fr. David will have neck surgery on January 20. He will need to be off for at least 2 weeks.

Our next meeting will be March 20.

NOVEMBER 13, 2013

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 and started with prayer.

Dave Schubert made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting, seconded by Deb. Motion carried.

Sheila Rudolph made a motion, seconded by Yvonne to accept treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

Discussed having the parish house occupied again. Marvin made a motion to proceed with occupancy, seconded by Ronnie Gross. Motion carried.

Education fund envelopes have been ordered. They will be put into the regular pack of yearly contribution envelopes.

Received results for the Parish Vibrancy Tool surveys taken earlier in the year. After reviewing the results, the council will see what action needs to be taken.

Response to the parish directory has been very good so far.

There was a contribution for a Memorial Fund. There was discussion as to how this contribution should be used.

Next meeting will be January 16, 2014.

SEPTEMBER 19, 2013

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 and started with prayer.

Member present: Ronnie Gross, Sheila Rudolph, Fr. David, Dave Schubert, Deb Woitalla, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Dave Skwira, Val Matlock, Yvonne Kisor.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to accept the minutes from the last meeting.

Treasurer’s report was read. Report did not have all the bazaar deposits in, so was not complete.

The education fund was discussed. The collection envelopes for the 2014 year have been ordered already so no education fund envelopes were included. We could possibly have envelopes printed and insert them ourselves. Deb will check into this.

We could add 2 more spots on the end of most rows in the cemetery. Dave Skwira has talked to Swede Roscoe about this job. They will try to complete 1 row by October and finish the rest in the spring.

Previously Darrell Welle visited with the council about having a representative from the council getting in touch with him and discussing our parish concerns. Phyllis has agreed to be our representative.

We received a print of Pope Francis. The print needs a frame and then can be hung. Fr will try to get this taken care of.

It was suggested that we add a baby changing station for people to use outside the church. Another suggestion was to enclose the stool in the men’s restroom in the Morton Building. We will look into this further in the spring.

There is a need for someone to be in charge of the appliances in the basement before the bazaar so they are ready to go. Phyllis will make a list of what needs to be done and we will find someone to take care of this job.

There will be a Vibrancy Tool meeting on October 29 at 6:00.

Holy Trinity School has taken out a loan from the Diocese to handle the extra cost of the new security measures, the roof, and windows.

Rosary Sodality will have their turkey bingo on November 3.

Meeting was called to order at 8:14 and started with prayer.

There was a discussion with Dale and Dean about employee wages. Dave made a motion, seconded by Ronnie to approve wages. Motion carried.

Fr presented a report regarding education fund.

Darrell Welle from Holy Family in Belle Prairie is looking for a representative to be on the diocesan pastoral council. Our representative would be in touch with Darrell who in turn would meet with the Bishop approximately 4 times a year to express our questions and concerns. This was tabled until the next meeting.

The boat for the bazaar raffle will be here July 19. Discussed ways to promote ticket sales. LeRoy will try to get signs from the beer salesmen.

The choir will now receive both forms of Communion.

Fr will discuss why there can be only one intention per mass.

Person drawing raffle tickets will be given some direction on Bazaar day. Ticket barrel will need to be rolled slowly and tickets picked from all areas of barrel.

The sidewalk off the kitchen door and by the east steps are in need of repair. Deb made a motion, seconded by Marvin to make repairs. LeRoy will make contact.

Holy Name Society has purchased a 120 gallon water heater and asked parish to provide plumbing to hook it up. Deb made a motion, seconded by Ron Gross to have the plumbing done.

Motion carried. Dave Schubert will take care of getting this done.

Holy Trinity School - no report

Fr Pierz - received water damage this spring, insurance will cover most of the damage

Rosary Sodality - will play bingo at the Villa in October and have turkey bingo at Harding in November.

MAY 16, 2013

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 and started with prayer.

Members present: Allen Kuebelbeck, Deb Woitalla, LeRoy Knopik, Valerie Matlock, Sheila Rudolph, Fr. David, and Yvonne Kisor.

Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to accept the minutes from the last meeting. Motion carried.

Sheila made a motion, seconded by LeRoy to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

Guests Julie LaFlamme and Mark Hoheisel explained the Father Pierz of Religion program. The response and participation by the youth is tremendous. Besides the classroom, there are many opportunities for our young people to enrich their faith. 67 to 70 % of tuition is paid. Tuition is $120.00 per year. It costs $340.00 per year to provide this service. We are fortunate to have such excellent teachers and an excellent program.

Fr. David would like to start an education fund. He has written a letter that will be sent to everyone on our church census. Father has offered to pay the cost of postage to mail these letters. Father and Deb will work on the mailing.

There was a discussion of employees wages. Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to accept employees salaries. Motion carried.

Dave Schubert and Ronnie Gross were elected to the parish council. Rosie Woitalla was elected to the Holy Trinity Board and Janet Hanneken was elected to the Fr Pierz Board.

Rosary Sodality will be going to St Otto’s for bingo on June 4. The time is 1:15 to 3:00.

The next meeting will be July 18.

Meeting was called to order at 7:55.

Kitchen repairs have all been made. We would like to have racks to put on the dish drainers. Dave Schubert will be checking on this.

City has put up a new flag.

Retro Green, a wall insulation company, sent information on a loan for an energy saving plan for non profits. There was a question raised about filling in the gap around the blocks.

Horst made a sample of a storm window to put in the windows on the inside. They would be put in for winter and taken out during the summer.

Fr David proposed starting an education fund. Letters would be sent to all parishioners. The council would like to see the final draft before it is sent but thought it would be a good idea. Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to sent a letter to all parishioners. Motion carried.

The contact list for the parish will be posted on the bulletin board and on the web site.

It was suggested that we start a maintenance log on all repairs on parish belongings.

Nominations will be accepted on April 7 for the Holy Trinity, Fr Pierz and the parish council.

April 14 will be the election. Rosie’s term is up and she can be re-elected. Horst’s term is up and he cannot be re-elected. Ronnie Gross’s term is up and he can be re-elected. Greg Woitalla’s term is up and he cannot be re-elected.

Motion was made by Marvin, seconded by Deb to discontinue the Saturday evening mass at Holy Cross. Motion carried.

It was suggested to put book holders in the pews. A sample was available. This will be on hold until a size can be agreed upon.

There was no report from Holy Trinity or Fr Pierz. Rosary Sodality will be playing bingo at St Otto’s on June 4.

Marvin made a motion, seconded by Sheila to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.

Meeting started at 8:00 with prayer.

Ronnie Gross made a motion to approve treasurer’s report, seconded by LeRoy Knopik and voted to approve.

The roof was done as of Monday, November 12. There is new flashing all around. The flashing on the north side was white, it was redone to match. The steeple was also caulked and flashing added. The entryway was also done. Willie Rudolph donated the two dumpsters needed for the job. There is a question about snow sliding off the roof. Might have to block it some how. Overall the roofers did a fantastic job. The ground next to the church will need to be leveled. It was decided to wait until spring when it can be seeded. Special thanks to Horst Hanneken for heading up this project. We are waiting for the payment schedule from the diocese. The load is for 10 years with approximate payments of $560.00/month. We will pay 4% interest.

There has been no change in the Morton Building.

Cemetery work is completed. The old cedar trees have been removed and new trees planted. Thanks to Jess Kloss for all his work. Jess Kloss was very instrumental in our last three tree projects. We might need some black dirt in the cemetery.

Parish Vibrancy Tool

We will do a self evaluation in the 7 areas of our parish life. Each area has a survey to be completed by the parishioners. It is scheduled to begin the weekend of Feb 2/3 and finish before Palm Sunday. Surveys will be sent to diocese for tabulation. After we get the results, we will need to decide what direction we should take.

2012-12 budget

Allen Kuebelbeck is working on and will have this done before the Holy Trinity Board meets to set their budget.

Tree of lights

Teresa and Leonard offered to take care of the tree of lights again. LeRoy Knopik made a motion, seconded by Greg Woitalla for the profits to go to the building fund. Motion passed. Thanks to Teresa and Leonard for doing this.

Statues and Flags

The American flag should be on the right side of the speaker and the Papal flag on the left. Flags have been changed and moved out so they are not stuck back in the corner. Statues will remain where they are.

Missalettes should be delivered to the church and not set outside the parish house. Horst will talk to Deb about notifying the delivery service. We should maybe have a note on the parish house stating this also.

Saturday night mass.

Attendance started out good on Saturday night mass and dwindled toward the end of summer. Will discuss again at the next meeting to see if we want to continue Saturday evening mass at Holy Cross.

Mike Smude agreed to plow snow for the church. LeRoy made a motion, seconded by Marvin to continue this service. Motion was passed.

Bingo

We will have a bingo to raise money for the building fund. It will be January 20 at 1:30. Since group 1 and 2 sponsored the last bingo, groups 3 and 4 will be in charge for this event.

November 27 will be the First Reconciliation for the second graders. It will be in Lastrup. We should keep them in our prayers. There 12 - 15 students in our 2 parishes. February 26 has been set for confirmation. Please keep these students in your prayers also.

Fr Pierz

75 people went to Steubenville. Father Pierz gathered 3/4 of a ton of food for the food shelf. There were 150 students attending a special speaker. On youth nights there are an average of 50-60 high school students and 30-40 junior high students attending. Worship night is well attended. Fr Pierz had the largest group attending Stuebenville and Castaway. We have phenomenal teachers doing a great job at getting the students involved.

The roof project should start next week. It was brought up that we should have a written agreement. Marvin Thomas will talk to Horst Hanneken.

Wall insulation project is on hold.

Morton Building is done except for the doors. They need some clips.

Ronnie Gross will contact Arnie Wiecorek about draining the water from the house and the Morton Building.

The cedar trees in the cemetery will be taken out and replaced by blue spruce. Jeff Kloss will let us have 3' trees for $22.

Central MN Doors came and adjusted all the doors in the bus garage.

The Bazaar was a big success. Someone mentioned that we heated water for dishes during the bazaar. No one at the meeting thought this had happened.

The auditors have asked up to prepare a budget. We would like to have it done before January. We would like to have our budget done before Fr and the trustees meet with the Holy Trinity Board. We would like to present it to the Holy Trinity Board before they go through their budget process. Holy Cross is doing well considering the financial situation. The council agreed our parish needs come first.

There was a question about donations. They should be made to Holy Cross Church in care of Fr David. There recently was an anonymous donation of $50,000 made to Holy Trinity. Fr Jerry suggested using $25,000 to help us catch up on our assessment.

Debra Meyer-Myrum was present to represent Holy Trinity. It costs $4,600 to educate a child at Holy Trinity. The breakdown of paying this is: 60 % parish investment, 29% tuition, and 11% donations and fund raising. We received copies of the number of students from each parish.

Fr David gave us a handout on the parish vibrancy tool. All council members are invited to a meeting on October 17 in Lastrup to hear Deacon Mark Barder talk on the vibrancy plan.

There is a fly problem in the church. We have no solution except clean up the flies.

October 19 the Rosary Sodality will be playing bingo at the Villa. They will have a turkey bingo on Nov 3.

The marriage Amendment sign is being vandalized. It was reported that it was stolen in Pierz and Buckman.

Debbie Woitalla made a motion to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Sheila Rudolph. Motion passed.

Meeting closed with prayer at 9:10.

The next meeting will be November 14.
