HOLY CROSS PARISH
PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)
APRIL 7, 2016
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.
Members present: Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Dave Schubert, Horst Hanneken, Gary Hebler, Dave Skwira, Fr David, Deb Woitalla, Leonard Thesing, Sheila Rudolph, Ronnie Gross and Yvonne Kisor.
Council heard from representatives of Holy Trinity. There are currently 168 students registered for next year, compared with 187 students who are currently attending Holy Trinity. Tuition is $1975.00 per student. Holy Trinity will be offering all day preschool next year. Parents will have the choice of full day or half day preschool.
Dave Schubert made a motion to accept the minutes of the January 21 meeting, seconded by Deb. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Leonard, seconded by Sheila to accept the treasurer's report. Motion carried.
The sidewalk around the columbarium will be completed as soon as the weather permits.
Ronnie Gross made a motion, seconded by Leonard to temporarily transfer $2000.00 from the building fund to the cemetery fund. Motion carried.
There is some water proofing that needs to be done. This will be done after the ground dries out.
The new table top in the kitchen is completed. The floor in the kitchen is a poured vinyl-like floor. Parts are cracked and some never was covered, so there is bare cement in spots. Dave Schubert will get an estimate to repair or replace.
Suggestion was made to have the cooks purchase more of the food for the bazaar. This would mean requesting for less food but a little more money on the bazaar food cards. Phyllis will meet with the other head cooks and report back to the council.
Facility and equipment fees will be addressed at the next meeting.
Motion was made by Deb, seconded by Leonard to have Horst refinish the backs of the pews and the kneelers.
It was recommended to reduce the speed of the ceiling fans. Leonard will do this.
There are 3 exterior doors with single pane glass and hollow panes. The Holy Name Society will donate money to the church to have them replaced.
Report from Fr Pierz: There were 15 students that helped with the serving at the MCCL dinner, 85 students participated at the March for Life, there were 50 students that cleaned the Pierz church, there are 60 students registered for Stuebenville with 20 more students on a waiting list.

JANUARY 21, 2016
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.
Members present: Leonard Thesing, Dave Skwira, Ronnie Gross, Gary Hebler, Sheila Rudolph, Fr David, Horst Hanneken, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Dave Schubert, Deb Woitalla, and Yvonne Kisor.
Correction to the November 19 minutes. Members present should include Gary Hebler. Deb made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to approve the minutes of the November 19th meeting with the addition to the members present. Motion carried.
Ronnie made a motion, seconded by Gary to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
The donated diamond willow cross has been hung. A donation plaque was added.
A new faucet was put in the bathroom. The light on the garage has been replaced. The church basement has been painted. The Columbarium sidewalk will be done in the spring.
Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Sheila to approve installation of downspouts with a maximum amount spent being $500.00. Motion carried.
Ronnie made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to install snow brackets for a price of $400.00 plus labor. Motion carried.
There was a profit of $3913.00 from the tree of lights and the wreath sales.
Amber Woitalla collected $420.00 for use of the basement on the parade night.
Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to fill the fuel barrel. Motion carried.
The parish has received two generous anonymous donations.
Some future repairs need are: narrow the sink drainers in the kitchen, fix the table in the kitchen area, the door going to the basement is only single pane glass and leaves in much cold air, the floor in the kitchen.
We now have oval roasters, if we had rectangle ones they would fit it the ovens better. Phyllis will check into this.
We will be looking at sample music books.
The first week in April will be nominations for parish positions. The second week will be elections.
As of the first of the year Phyllis has retired from the decorating committee.
There are several jobs in the parish that are not done by the ladies who clean every week. Phyllis will make a detailed list of the jobs.
Had a discussion on the 4 parish mission nights.
Fr Pierz will have a meeting on January 28.
Holy Trinity no report
Holy Name will have a meeting to set the bingo date.
Next meeting will be March 17.

NOVEMBER 19, 2015
Meeting was called to order at7:30 and started with prayer.
Members present: Horst Hanneken, Dave Schubert, Sheila Rudolph, Ronnie Gross, Leonard Thesing, Deb Woitalla, Dave Skwira, Fr David, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, and Yvonne Kisor.
Motion was made by Dave Skwira, seconded by Sheila to approve the minutes of the last meeting with the following correction: Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to accept the donation of a diamond willow cross from Joe DeLong. Motion carried.
Gary made a motion, seconded by Sheila to approve financial report. Motion carried.
Heating fuel was ordered, delivered, and paid for.
The Columbarium sidewalk be done in the spring.
The downspouts will have to be re-measured.
Snow brackets on the roof above will the East side entrance is a work in progress. Horst is taking care of that.
Dave Skwira made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to make the following addition to our policies: There will be a minimum 30 day notice for rent or use of any church facility. Reservation can by made with Leonard or Teresa Thesing. Motion carried.
To save on printing costs we will only order half of our usual order of bazaar posters.
Leonard made a motion, seconded by Sheila to pay $8000.00 to Holy Trinity for assessments. Motion carried. Motion made by Dave Schubert, seconded by Ronnie to pay $3612.00 to Fr Pierz for assessments. Motion carried.
Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to allow the gun safety training course to use the church basement. They will start of January 28 and go for 7 weeks, meeting on Thursdays. Motion carried.
The light on the outside of the bus garage is not working. Ronnie Gross will take care of calling an electrician to have it fixed.
Leonard and Teresa Thesing have volunteered to take care of the tree of lights and the sale of Christmas wreaths. Proceeds this year will be used to finish the restoration of the pews and kneelers.
The microphone used on the pulpit has been checked by Radio Shack. The microphone is one of the best. There were a couple of loose connections.
Received a summary sheet from Fr on the 4 parish mission to be held January 17 - 20.
Fr Pierz report: They have 518 students. 75 students are from Holy Cross. 42% of the tuition has been collected.
Holy Trinity report: Finances look good. The marathon and steak and wine dinner had very good results.
Rosary Sodality: Christmas party will be held December 13. December 5 they will be selling refreshments during craft show and after parade. Bingo did well.
The next meeting will be January 21, 2016 at 7:30.

PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.
Members present: Sheila Rudolph, Ronnie Gross, Dave Schubert, Gary Hebler, Dave Skwira, Fr. David, Leonard Thesing, Horst Hanneken, Debbie Woitalla, and Yvonne Kisor.
Motion was made by Dave Skwira to approve minutes of last meeting, seconded by Gary. Motion carried.
Dave Schubert made a motion to approve financial report, seconded by Ronnie. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Deb to approve agenda, seconded by Sheila. Motion carried.
The bus garage floor and sidewalk by the grotto has been repaired.
Gluten free hosts have been ordered and Fr reports the system he has implemented seems to be working.
Horst had arranged with Sheriff Larson to have security at the bazaar. Someone should have been there from 2:00 until the end of the bazaar. There was a deputy there but he did not stay the entire time.
People who use the parish buildings need to check with Leonard or Teresa Thesing to make sure the buildings are available.
The 2016 First Communion will be April 17, 2016. St. John's and Holy Cross will have First Communion on the same day but each parish will have their own service.
Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Gary to hire Hillary Mrozek for the second shift of bazaar music. Motion carried. Yvonne will try to contact him.
We just had the second best bazaar in our history. It was suggested to add ceiling fans in the Morton building. Leadership for the dining room is under advisement. It was suggested there should be partitions put the men's rest room.
Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to fill the fuel tank. Motion carried. Dave Schubert will take care of ordering.
Council members heard several suggestions that the backs and kneelers should be refinished. Horst will pull a kneeler and try refinishing it.
Horst will check on a portable microphone.
Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to accept a donation of a 7 foot diamond willow cross from Joe DeLong. Motion carried.
There will be a 4 parish mission January 17 - 20, 2016. Each parish will have one night. The emphasis will be on the youth.
There are 6 concrete rain spouts. They are all broken. Horst will check into flip down spouts.
It was suggested we need some kind of stops on the roof to keep the snow from sliding off the roof.
Fr Pierz has collected 85% of the tuition from last year.
Holy Trinity no report. Holy Name no report
Rosary Sodality will play bingo the first part of November. They will go to the Villa in October to play bingo with the residents.

JULY 23, 2015
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.
Members present: Horst Hanneken, Leonard Thesing, Phylllis Schmidtbauer, Gary Hebler, Dave Skwira, Sheila Rudolph, Dave Schubert, Deb Woitalla and Yvonne Kisor.
Leonard made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Motion carried.
Gary made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
The pew refinishing job is done.
Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to approve payment to Tri-City paving for work completed on parking lot and cemetery road. Motion carried.
Amended two cemetery by-laws. Motion made by Phyllis, seconded by Sheila to amend #15 Columbarium to: a two-inch bronze medallion honoring members of the branches of our country's service, namely the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast guard, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Merchant Marine, U.S. National Guard, or U.S. Navy is permitted to be located in the left quadrant next to the respective veteran's name in place of an aforementioned design. Sheila made a motion, seconded by Gary to change #16 Arrangements for Purchase of Lots: Cost of opening and/or closing a grave is currently $500.00. Both motions carried.
An upright freezer has been donated by Electrolux.
Welcome packets have been put on hold for now.
We talked about having some security at the bazaar. Horst will check into this.
Deb made a motion, seconded by Gary to supply gluten free hosts for those medically in need. Motion carried. If people need gluten free hosts, they should contact Fr. Dave.
Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to approve payment for all paving work. Motion carried.
Deb made a motion, seconded by Dave Skwira to authorize repair of cement in the bus garage and fix the sidewalk by the grotto. Motion carried.
Portable microphone business was tabled for now. Horst will check into this.

MARCH 19, 2015

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.
Members present: Fr David, Dave Schubert, Deb Woitalla, Dave Skwira, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Horst Hanneken, Sheila Rudolph, Ronnie Gross, and Yvonne Kisor.

Dave Skwira made a motion, seconded by Deb to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Motion carried.
Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Ron made a motion, seconded by Sheila to approve the treasurers report. Motion carried.

Columbarium update. The Columbarium should be delivered sometime between April 20 and the first part of May.

Parish repairs: The outside display bulletin has been repaired. Horst will take care of the East door. It needs a gasket. Tim fixed the door switches. The Fr Otto Cross memorial will be hung by Horst and Dave.

The balance on the roof is $8054.91 plus interest. Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to pay the loan off. Motion carried.

Facility keys: the Tabernacle key was lost or stolen. We are currently using an extra tabernacle from St. Johns. Horst made a key rack to be placed in the fire proof safe.

Discussed locking the church. No decision was made.

There are several items needing repair in the church. The pews need refinishing. It has been about 35 years since they were done. The windows are in need of caulking. The parking lot and cemetery road need resurfacing.

Parish council elections: Phyllis and Sheila can be re-elected. Parish members will be voting for 3 council members. Deb will take care of the election process. Nominations will be made April 12 with the election on April 26.

There will be a bazaar meeting on May 11.
Baccalaureate Mass is tentatively scheduled for May 17.
Holy Name bingo was well attended.
Rosary Sodality will have a meeting soon. They will be going to St. Otto's on June 9 to play bingo with the residents.
The next meeting will be May 21 at 7:30.

JANUARY 15, 2015

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.

Members present: Dave Skwira, Deb Woitalla, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Fr David, Horst Hanneken, Ronnie Gross, Sheila Rudolph, Dave Schubert, Gary Hebler, Val Matlock, LeRoy Knopik, and Yvonne Kisor.

Guests were Debra Meyer-Myrum and Richard Langer.

Dave Skwira made a motion, seconded by Deb to accept the minutes from the last meeting. Motion carried.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Phyllis Schmidtbauer to approve the financial report. Motion carried.

Debra Meyer-Myrum gave detailed report on Holy Trinity. The report included enrollment, their budget, and financial plan for the future.

Columbarium update: On October 30, 2014 a payment of $8350.00 was made to Little Falls Granite. That is half the price of the Columbarium. The second half is due upon installation.

The container is done. We need to decide on the door front design. Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to adopt the rosette design. Motion carried. Sheila made a motion, seconded by Deb to use the Roman lettering font. Motion carried. Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb to charge $800.00 per niche for parishioners and $1600.00 per niche for non-parishioners. Motion carried.

The bus garage repairs were completed November 22. There was a very good crew. The parish house garage will be done shortly.

The door on the outside bulletin board display has been fixed. The inside board was ordered in the middle of December. It will be black anodized aluminum with white letters. Total cost will be approximately $650.00.

As a parish, we are committed to $25,000 to Holy Trinity and $17,000 to Fr Pierz.

Cemetery rules and regulations was tabled for now.

Ronnie made a motion to order 3000 gallons of heating fuel, seconded by Deb. Motion carried.

There is no gasket on one side of the east door. Horst and Dave Schubert will look into this.

Leonard and Teresa Thesing turned in a report on the Memory Tree of Lights and the wreath sale. Wonderful job.

Next meeting will be March 19 at 7:30.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 8:15 and started with prayer.

Members present: Horst Hanneken, Ronnie Gross, Val Matlock, Gary Hebler, Dave Skwira, Sheila Rudolph, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Deb Woitalla, Dave Schubert, Fr. David and Yvonne Kisor.

Deb made a motion, seconded by Sheila to approve the minutes of the last meeting with the following corrections: The parish will be occupied. Jeff Kloss removed the dead spruce trees in the cemetery. Rose and Amber Woitalla are representing Holy Cross Parish in the Holy Trinity attempt to reduce the parish responsibility. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s report was read. Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Sheila to approve the report. Motion carried.

Council members meet at 7:00 in the cemetery with Scott Nagel, a representative from Little Falls Granite Works. He presented designs and costs of several Columbariums. This item was tabled until the next meeting.

The garage doors by the parish house have been replaced. The garage ceiling is scheduled to be replaced in October. Much remodeling, painting and cleaning have also been completed. The furnace is in need of a maintenance check. Ron Gross will take care of having this done.

Leonard will winterize the water lines used for the bazaar.

Kummet will be installing the electric meter for the parish house.

Leonard and Teresa Thesing have offered to take care of the Tree of Lights and Wreath Sale again this year. Profits will go for cemetery upgrade.

A map of the utility lines on the parish grounds is a work in progress.

The after bazaar meeting went well. There were about 25 people in attendance. Dinner sales were down about 200. Suggestions were made to have a gun raffle and a children’s bike raffle.

The kettles used on the stove don’t always fit, making it a hazard. The kitchen is also in need of some new strainers and roasters. Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Ron Gross to allow Phyllis to replace items that are needed. Motion carried. It was also decided a convection oven would not work well for us.

Horst has checked and is still looking for material for the parish sign.

Holy Trinity would like to set their budget and need a dollar amount from Holy Cross as to what we will be able to pay. Deb made a motion, seconded by Ronnie to contribute $25,000.00 to Holy Trinity and up to $17,000.00 to Fr Pierz for our assessment.

Fr Pierz has a meeting next Thursday. Horst will bring their financial statement.

Rosary Sodality will have a meeting next week or so. Their turkey bingo is tentatively scheduled for the first Sunday in November.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 23 at 7:30.

OCTOBER 23, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 7:45 and started with prayer.

Members present: Gary Hebler, Horst Hanneken, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Dave Schubert, Sheila Rudolph, Dave Skwira, Val Matlock, Fr David and Yvonne Kisor.

This was a special meeting regarding purchasing a Columbarium. There were four main items discussed. They were location, size, model and price. Sheila made a motion, seconded by Phyllis to purchase a 48 niche upgraded solid granite Columbarium. Motion carried. Dave Skwira made a motion, seconded by Gary to have the stone be carnelian. The columbarium will be located east of the driveway. The font and size of the lettering will be decided later. Dave Skwira will talk to Steve for digging. Dave Schubert will talk to Swede about concrete work.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Sheila to put a three foot sidewalk around the columbarium. Motion carried.

November 22 has been set to put rafters in the lean on the bus garage and plywood installed in garage by parish house.

November 20 will be the next meeting at 7:30.

HOLY CROSS PARISH

PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)

NOVEMBER 20, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 and started with prayer.

Members present: Sheila Rudolph, Ronnie Gross, Gary Hebler, LeRoy Knopik, Fr David, Deb Woitalla, Phyllis Schmidtbauer, Dave Schubert, Horst Hanneken, Val Matlock, Yvonne Kisor.

Guests Julie LaFlamme and Richard Langer.

Julie LaFlamme gave a report on Fr Pierz. She talked about the Evangelization brought about through Fr Pierz. The attendance at their functions is wonderful. We are so lucky to have the leadership we do at Fr Pierz. I can not say enough about the good work they are doing.

Dave Schubert made a motion, seconded by Deb Woitalla to accept the minutes of the last meeting. Motion carried.

Ron Gross made a motion seconded by Sheila to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

Columbarium update: All the footings are in, Swede Roscoe took the companies recommendation and approximately double the requirements. There are 6 cement pillars and crushed rock. Swede donated all his labor. Columbarium lettering and cost tabled.

Bus garage update: The rafters will be repaired on November 22. Andy Woitalla will be heading up this project. The garage by the parish house will also have new plywood installed in the ceiling.

Horst has been working on a parish grounds map. He is trying to locate all wiring and pipes that service the parish.

Bus garage floor is tabled until spring.

The door on the church sign will be fixed. Horst found a place that can replace the inside of the sign.

The John Deere tractor is back and working.

Cemetery by-laws has been tabled. Fr will try to get updated version from the Diocese.

It was suggested the Holy Day mass time should coincide with Sunday mass time. Fr will try to do that. December 8 mass schedule is Lastrup 8 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. and Harding at 8:00 P.M.

The speaker at the podium is not working properly. Horst will check if we need new wiring or a new microphone.

Christmas mass will be at 9:00 A.M. in both parishes.
